Hello everyone! Sorry it has been a while since I last posted. I'll try to get you up to date.
On Saturday Chris was released from the hospital and came home. Yay! While it was his shortest stay yet, he is still in quite a bit of pain and is using this week to really rest and recover here at the house. He has a nasty new war wound on his abdomen...the area where his old stoma is healing and this is what has been causing him the most discomfort. We think what they did was make incisions on either side of the old stoma (opening for his ileostomy) and then brought everything back together to form a decent-sized horizontal line of staples (17 of them!). He will get these removed when he sees the surgeon again in another week and a half or two.
The thought is that next week Chris will start to get a little more active and then possibly return to work the week following. We don't want to push it too fast, but at the same time also don't need to waste sick days if he gets to the point where he thinks he can manage his classroom. I am still at home this week but return to work on Monday the 20th (boo!). Kinley will go with her big sister to daycare at Judy's where everyone is anxiously awaiting her arrival. She will be in good hands!
I also wanted to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers for my Aunt Karen. Here's a little update on her situation up at the Mayo Clinic (as of Sunday anyway). Her temperature was back to normal, which is huge, and her white count is almost normal as well. She is more relaxed and able to communicate although not talk, because she is still on the ventilator. They were supposed to have had a PICC line put in yesterday which will eliminate the need to stick her every time they need to draw blood, but it also carries a risk of infection so hopefully that went well. Ron moved into an apartment in the basement of someone's house just a block away which will save him money while they wait for her to return home probably several more weeks.
